Boston. Having lately seen many compositions consecrated to
the memory of General Montgomery, I suppose a parody, which
accidentally fell into my hands, in honor to Major General
Warren, would not be disagreeable. I should have been
happier, was I possessed of it former, but Gen. Warren was
too precious to his countrymen, to have any thing
disagreeable, even in remote time, -that tends to perpetuate
his memory.
PARODY.
In a mouldering cave, where th' oppressed retreat,
Columbia sat wasted with care--
She wept for her Warren, exclaim'd against fate,
And gave herself up to despair.
The walls of her cell she had sculptur'd around,
With the form of her favourite son--
And even the dust as it lay on the ground,
Express'd the high deeds he had done.
